3-time Premier League promotion winner Scott Parker leads odds to become the new Southampton boss if Tonda Eckert gets sacked following the ‘Spygate’ scandal.
The ‘Spygate’ scandal has absolutely tarnished Tonda Eckert’s reputation among Southampton fans. Not only did he intentionally authorise spying on Championship rivals but he did that while forcing junior analysts and club interns against their will.
For a club that supports the development of young players from grassroots level to the Premier League, that is extremely pathetic. As things stand, Tonda Eckert will likely not be Southampton’s boss when the 2026/27 season rolls around.
Either it will be Southampton sacking him for bringing shame to the club or the FA banning him for several years from taking charge in English football. Obviously, a lot can change until August if Eckert issues an apology to the fans and manages to escape an FA sanction.
Assuming the worst, Southampton might be in for another manager hunt in the Sport Republic era. So, who is in the running for the Saints dugout seat as of present?
Well, there are a bunch of decent candidates as usual. And among them is a 3-time Premier League promotion winner.
Scott Parker leads odds to become new Southampton boss
According to the latest odds from bookmakers, former Burnley boss Scott Parker is expected to take the Southampton role. Now there are obviously two ways to look at it. Firstly, Parker belongs to the same young category of managers Sport Republic have prioritised hiring at Southampton.

Some notable examples are Russell Martin, Will Still, Tonda Eckert and Ruben Selles with most of them proving to be utter failures in either the Championship or the Premier League. So it’s natural to fear Scott Parker might not last in the building for longer.
Scott Parker is the perfect manager profile for Southampton
On the flip side, he might stabilise Southampton to some extent. Presently, Saints fans are anticipating a massive exodus of talent from the club which is never a good sign in the Championship. Every year, 6 new teams come in the second tier and many of them prove to be surprise packages and punch above their weight in the league table.
And that can create problems for top clubs going through a challenging phase. Just look at 2025/26 Leicester City. They were relegated from the Premier League and knew a points deduction was coming their way in the Championship.
On top of that, a bad manager appointment dashed their promotion dreams and instead Leicester City came crashing down to League One. Scott Parker is atleast not a terrible manager to lead a Championship side. Infact, he has won 3 Premier League promotions starting with Fulham in 2019/20, Bournemouth in 2021/22 and Burnley in 2024/25.
Not saying Parker will definitely bring Southampton back to the Premier League at the first time of asking while dealing with a 4-point deduction. But what he will do, is keep the Saints in or around the Championship playoffs and push for a Premier League return in the coming seasons when there will be no point deduction issues.
Frankly speaking, Parker can genuinely be a steal deal for Southampton. He has never survived a Premier League season without getting relegated before which will keep him away from top-flight jobs.
Also, how many Championship clubs can offer him a significant contract and a £40-50m summer spend to bolster the squad to his liking? Very few. All in all, Parker to Southampton can actually happen over the summer and it can work out well as far as gaining promotion from the Championship is concerned.
