Southampton are close to finalising a permanent move for Daniel Peretz after the loanee impressed after arriving in a winter move during the 2025/26 season.
The last couple of days have seen a massive upheaval for Southampton following the Spygate incident. With owner Dragan Solak backing boss Tonda Eckert and principal shirt sponsor P&O Cruises continuing their partnership, the club is gradually recovering from the damage caused.
But if these developments didn’t already reflect Solak’s promise to build a promotion‑winning side, the club has surprised supporters with another move. Touted to launch concrete steps toward a promotion push, the Saints are close to signing a superstar loanee on a permanent deal.
The player in question is Daniel Peretz, who joined on loan from Bayern Munich. Having had a terrific winter spell with Southampton, the club and player are in agreement to extend his stay at St. Mary’s permanently.
Daily Echo reporter Alfie House updated on the situation, saying: “Understand Saints are in advanced talks to re-sign goalkeeper Daniel Peretz on a permanent deal. Pushing to get done quickly, Peretz keen to stay at St Mary’s and help the club get promoted despite interest elsewhere.”
Daniel Peretz’s signing resolves the Saints goalkeeping fiasco
Notably, Southampton had a stacked goalkeeping roster during the 2025/26 campaign. Despite starting the season with only Gavin Bazunu and Alex McCarthy, the loan arrivals of Daniel Peretz, Jamie Jones, and George Long bolstered the department considerably.
But with Peretz, Jones, and Long’s loans ending, and surging transfer interest in loanee returnee Aaron Ramsdale amid concerns over Bazunu’s form, the Saints’ future between the sticks looked concerning for a while.
However, the recent update has resolved this headache for the club faithful entirely. That’s because of what the club and supporters witnessed from Daniel Peretz during his debut spell.
Despite arriving midway through the season, Peretz changed the entire trajectory of Southampton’s campaign. While the club stood below mid‑table at the time of his debut, his rock‑solid performances in goal eventually carried the Saints to the Championship playoffs.

In the second half of the season, Peretz was arguably the best keeper in the Championship. Denying an impressive xG of 6.54 across the 20 league appearances he made, he conceded less than a goal per game until the end of the campaign.
Having delivered another heroic performance in the two‑legged playoff semi‑final against Middlesbrough, he gave his best in contributing to Southampton’s promotion hopes. Although Spygate denied him promotion, the keeper is now keen to reach the Premier League with Southampton.
Peretz’s eagerness shows he needs Saints as much as they need him
Southampton are taking a massive leap in their next‑season preparations by signing Peretz. With the loanee having become the most reliable goalkeeper the Saints have had in a while, convincing him to make his stay permanent greatly aids their promotion cause.
But what is worth noting is that Peretz joining Southampton is more of a symbiotic, beneficial relationship than just the Saints gaining an advantage from the move.
After the EFL’s verdict on the club’s playoff expulsion was announced, Peretz returned home following the end of his loan. While most assumed his Saints stint had ended abruptly, the keeper soon clarified that he had not ruled out a permanent St. Mary’s move.
That’s because Peretz believes in the quality of Southampton’s squad and recognises that he and the Saints need each other. Having waited years for a genuine chance in the top flight with Bayern Munich, he was unconvinced that his successful Saints spell should end this way.
Given that Southampton are now in advanced negotiations to finalise a permanent transfer, the keeper stands a real chance of becoming a regular in a major European top flight. This way, the move benefits his personal career alongside the collective success of Southampton.
