Southampton fans react to Daniel Peretz joining Saints permanently from Bayern Munich in the 2026 summer transfer window.
June is going from good to “better than May” to best for Southampton. Saints owner and chairman Dragan Solak has confirmed Tonda Eckert will remain in charge at Southampton as long as he escapes an FA ban.
The club is prioritising retaining the services of four essential players from the 2025/26 season, namely, James Bree, Ross Stewart, Daniel Peretz and Cyle Larin. And lo, the first (and arguably the best) of the lot is about to be bought on a permanent basis.
Southampton are reported to be closing on Daniel Peretz’s permanent signing from Bayern Munich with the player willing to stay at St. Mary’s despite a heartbreaking Championship playoffs final expulsion.
Honestly, not a lot of Saints fans saw this transfer happening so soon. As such, there is plenty of optimism among the Southampton fanbase for the rest of the 2026 summer transfer window.
Southampton fans react to Daniel Peretz joining Saints permanently
On Daniel Peretz joining Southampton, one fan said: “Signing of the season if we get this over the line!”
Well, he isn’t wrong there. Southampton can sign and retain multiple star players in other positions, no doubt, but having Peretz in goal is way better than relying on the error-prone Gavin Bazunu.
It’s not wrong to wonder whether Southampton might have challenged Coventry City and Ipswich Town to automatic promotion last season had Peretz been brought in 2025 summer itself. Anyways, with Peretz, Southampton can dominate the 2026/27 Championship.
Another Saints fan reacted: “Brilliant news…thank you Daniel. It may convince others to stay as well… patience is a virtue, as for the other 23 teams in the league GET OUT OF THE WAY”
More fans joined in with the optimism, expecting many players will ultimately stay. Another supporter added: “If Daniel’s staying i see a lot of the other boys staying – maybe even Leo if we’re lucky”

Now, that is a realistic possibility. Southampton will need to raise funds without Premier League football for another year, but that can be done with 1-2 big sales alone.
Simply put, not all of Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Shea Charles, Caspar Jander and Leo Scienza will be sold together. Perhaps 1-2 of them and that too if the offer is right. Talking about Leo, he is a Saints fan favourite through and through.
He also came from the Bundesliga just like Peretz, so, most likely Scienza won’t see the ‘Spygate’ affair as a big NO to continuing at Southampton. Moreover, that old narrative about Southampton running into a fire sale and players suing the clubs for EFL punishment looks baseless now.
One Southampton fan recalled it sarcastically: “I thought the players hated Tonda and everyone was suing us.”
Seriously, the way the English media exaggerated ‘sensational’ stories about Southampton was horrible. Turns out, all those miserable Saints updates were just hoaxes. Caspar Jander’s former club Nurnberg appealing for a €1m Southampton lawsuit could also prove to be a mere lie down the road.
Lastly, there are many “I use to pray for times like this” memes doing the rounds on Daniel Peretz’s summer signing. Summer has just started right now, and Southampton are already taking massive steps to bring the promotion charge back on track.
Let’s see what the coming days have in store for Southampton.
