Southampton fans are bringing Tom Fellows comparisons upon hearing Jofre Carreras to Saints transfer links.
Southampton’s 2026/27 squad upgrade is going in full flow at the moment. The Saints have agreed permanent deals for Daniel Peretz and Cyle Larin for a combined €10m and don’t seem to stop on contract renewals either.
James Bree and Ross Stewart’s current Southampton deals run out in 2026 and the club intends to tie both of them down to new contracts. Infact, Saints may have dropped James Bree’s contract extension hint in Cyle Larin’s permanent transfer announcement.
Amidst that, there is a surprise Southampton transfer rumour doing the rounds since yesterday. Saints have shortlisted Espanyol’s 24-year-old right winger Jofre Carreras as a summer transfer target. He has played 116 games for Espanyol with 38 coming in the second division and rest in La Liga.
But there is a catch, Carreras has only notched 9 Espanyol goals so far with only 1 coming in the previous 2025/26 La Liga season alongside no assists. These are poor numbers for a forward. Realistically, Southampton shouldn’t be eyeing Carreras signing but the Saints fanbase shares mixed opinions on him.
Southampton fans bring Tom Fellows comparisons on Jofre Carreras links
The majority of Saints fans have only one name in mind after seeing Carreras score a single goal for Espanyol in 2025/26. Tom Fellows. Southampton signed Fellows from West Brom in 2025, and he has been a decent signing except that Fellows ended his debut Saints campaign with no goals.
That tally is leading fans to draw Tom Fellows and Jofre Carreras comparisons. One of them said: “Literally just Tom Fellows. Are we selling Fellows then?”
Seeing him, more Southampton fans jumped in with the argument that Fellows and other starters should be kept for next season. Another one added: “Fellows will only improve this season so would prefer the club to find a way to keep the existing squad together”.

Others believe Southampton wish to give Fellows a right-wing competitor. A third Southampton fan voiced: “Not sure if he’s better than fellows but they’re definitely similar profiles. A bit like bringing larin in when we had Stewart, it just lets us keep some tactical consistency in the subs I think”
There are a few positive reactions too. Paying less attention to Carreras dismal scoring numbers another fan wisely recalled: “We said the same about Larin. And Scienza only scored 4 goals the season before he joined us. Peretz had barely played a game.”
Johannes Spors and the board took a huge risk with Scienza, Larin and Peretz’s signings and look, all 3 of them are non-negotiable starters under Tonda Eckert. Perhaps, Southampton transfer chiefs have seen something special in Carreras and don’t wish to pass away this opportunity.
It’s worth remembering that Southampton played a preseason friendly against Carreras’ Espanyol last July. The La Liga side ran out 2-1 winners there with Carreras dazzling down the right flanks and causing all sorts of problems to the Saints backline.
Plus, Southampton have bagged Cyle Larin on permanent basis. If Carreras can ping crosses to him accurately, St. Mary’s might be in for an entertaining Championship season with the Spaniard.
