Southampton loanee Cyle Larin’s positive comments about his winter spell hint at the forward being open to a permanent move to St. Mary’s.
The summer transfer window officially opens on 15th June, but Southampton are already making moves. While initially linked with the departures of multiple star players like Shea Charles, the Saints have begun laying the groundwork for key arrivals.
In a recent update, the club are in advanced negotiations to finalise a permanent move for loanee Daniel Peretz. What’s more inspiring is that Southampton may have received a positive indication to make a move for another star loanee.
The player in question is loanee forward Cyle Larin. When asked about his successful Southampton spell, the Canadian international had only positive things to say about his time at St. Mary’s despite his loan ending abruptly following the playoff expulsion.
As quoted by Saints Extra, Larin told One Soccer: “The club gave me the trust. The coach gave me a lot of trust too. The main reason why I went there was because of him. And obviously it’s Southampton, it’s a great club.”
Larin’s comments sound similar to Daniel Peretz’s previous note
Cyle Larin and Daniel Peretz’s impact on Southampton was similar, with both being super‑hit winter signings. While Peretz complemented the defence with his impressive displays, Larin got the Saints rolling with goals up front.
Notably, more has emerged relating the two loanees now. That’s because Larin’s recent comments are very similar to how Peretz expressed his admiration for Southampton days ago.
After having left for home following the end of his loan, Peretz fondly recalled his Southampton spell. Having denied having anything negative to say about the club despite the Spygate incident, the keeper left the possibility of a St. Mary’s return open.
What is worth noticing is that Larin’s praise for Southampton, and especially for boss Eckert, feels very similar in tone.

That’s because Larin had been struggling during the 2025/26 campaign prior to his Southampton loan. However, boss Eckert changed the forward’s season after detailing to him how he fit into his plans and guaranteeing him regular opportunities.
The result saw Cyle Larin repay that trust by contributing effectively to Southampton’s playoff push. Despite making just 16 appearances, some of them as a substitute, Larin ended his winter spell with eight goals and an average of 0.78 goals per 90 minutes.
Permanent move for Larin could be next step for promotion push
The upcoming summer transfer window had long been touted as a challenging one for Southampton. Following a dramatic playoff expulsion due to the Spygate incident, the club faced a difficult task in retaining their core players to mount another promotion push next season.
However, the recent steps taken by the club bring promise. Already in talks to finalise a move for Peretz, the Saints have received encouraging signals from Cyle Larin. His recent comments and evident fondness for Tonda Eckert suggest he is open to a permanent stay at the club.
Given that the forward is coming off an impressive winter spell and is willing to make a move, Southampton find themselves in a positive position regarding his future. The next step remains for the club to begin their pursuit of the Canadian international this summer.
Notably, this task feels within reach. According to Daily Echo reporter Alfie House, Southampton have already started laying the groundwork for Cyle Larin’s permanent move.
Should the Saints execute this deal, they will bring themselves one step closer to their goal of retaining their core ahead of next season. That’s not to forget the other exciting deals Southampton could pursue to strengthen their side in the upcoming summer window.
All in all, Cyle Larin could likely be the next player after Peretz to commit his future to Southampton. While the club hopes to reach an official agreement as soon as possible, a resolution before the World Cup would be helpful for all parties involved.
