VfB Stuttgart are reportedly considering a move of around €20m-plus for Southampton starlet Caspar Jander.
Over the previous summer transfer windows, Southampton have earned a reputation as shrewd sellers in English football. Apart from holding the record for the highest Championship sale ever, the club have cut their losses even when parting with failed signings like Kamaldeen Sulemana.
In fact, owner Dragan Solak recently looked back fondly on the Mateus Fernandes sale, which netted the club around £100m. But despite the established consensus about their departure business, VfB Stuttgart have been reported to be lowballing an offer for one of their prized gems.
The player in question is Caspar Jander. Having garnered significant attention across Europe for his impressive 2025/26 campaign, Jander emerged as a possible option for Stuttgart this summer.
German outlet BILD hinted at Stuttgart’s undervaluation of Jander despite their surging interest in him. SaintsExtra quoted: “German side Stuttgart continue to show interest in Southampton midfielder Caspar Jander, & they would have to pay ‘at least €20m’ [£17.2m] to secure his signing.”
VfB Stuttgart lowball Jander with ridiculous offer despite interest
The last few weeks have seen various German clubs monitor Jander’s situation at Southampton. While some, like Nürnberg, have been viewing the midfielder’s transfer saga as a windfall source, others, like Stuttgart and Leipzig, remain interested in bringing him back to Germany.
Even between Leipzig and Stuttgart, the latter have recently overtaken the former in their willingness to sign Jander. However, the club’s valuation hardly matches the level of their surging interest in the Saints midfielder.
Analysing the case closely, Stuttgart view Jander as a possible replacement for exit‑bound star Angelo Stiller. But what’s surprising is that while they value Stiller at around €50m, they are hoping to bring in Jander for half that sum.

Notably, Stuttgart are guaranteed at least €40m if any suitor triggers Stiller’s release clause. While they are understood to be aware that securing Jander would require at least €20m, they still hope to keep a fair share of the profit from Stiller’s sale for themselves.
It should be noted that the last time Stuttgart qualified for the Champions League, they made two club‑record signings in the summer window. While the club could plan to break their record of €27m for Jander, Southampton are unlikely to sanction a sale if they feel they are being undervalued.
Southampton’s plans hint at their possible stance on Jander
Days ago, Dragan Solak made the club’s transfer plans clear: they only hope to sign a number ten to ease Fin Azaz’s workload. While those plans could change in the event of a departure like Jander’s, there is no indication that the club intend to sell him themselves.
Recently, Solak spoke highly of how Jander’s signing has been an outstanding investment from the fees collected in the Mateus Fernandes sale. With the player being no less talented than Fernandes, Southampton are unlikely to demand anything less should he leave.
Taking reference from their previous Fernandes and Tyler Dibling sales, Southampton would expect a figure around €30m for Jander. Given what the player demonstrated in his debut Saints campaign, the club won’t let him go unless they cash in enough to find a suitable replacement.
However, Jander’s willingness to return to Germany could influence the trajectory of his transfer saga. Should the midfielder push for an exit, the Saints might have to compromise on a cut‑price fee rather than holding out for their original valuation.
Still, the expected consensus remains that Southampton won’t sanction Jander’s sale anywhere near the reported €20m fee. Solak’s plans for a strong promotion push next season are firm, and that guarantees the club will not adopt a complacent stance on Jander’s departure.
