Southampton loanee forward Cyle Larin drops a massive transfer claim for teammates Finn Azaz and Léo Scienza.
The end of the international break is set to usher in an exciting final stretch of the season for Southampton. While the club has seen a mixed bag of results from on-duty national stars, the players’ enthusiasm boosts the hopes for this season and beyond.
Previously, Saints fans caught wind of Daniel Peretz’s desire to make his St. Mary’s move permanent. Though the possibility hinges on the club’s promotion charge, Peretz sounded open to the move.
Now, it’s another loanee, Cyle Larin, dropping his verdict about his new teammates. Based on what he’s seen in recent months, the Canadian forward believes a couple of Southampton attackers have the quality to earn a massive European move.
Southampton are often hailed as a feeder club for PL teams
Southampton’s history of producing players like Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mané, and Gareth Bale has cemented their reputation as a talent pipeline to Premier League clubs. Notably, this trend has continued even through their more difficult recent seasons.
Take, for instance, Southampton’s last summer transfer business. Firstly, West Ham snapped up Saints’ star right-back Kyle Walker-Peters, followed by the ambitious £42m move for prodigy Mateus Fernandes.
While it’s been an overall unimpressive season for West Ham, the duo has been major bright spots in their relegation fight so far.
Next up comes the case of Saints loanee Aaron Ramsdale. Though Newcastle may opt against signing him at the end of his spell, the Magpies can’t deny the usefulness of this temporary move, especially with Nick Pope’s subpar form this season.
Finally, there’s the sale of Tyler Dibling to Everton. While Dibling stood as a prominent talent set for Premier League action at the time of his departure, Everton has underutilised the player’s strengths till now.
Though the Tyler Dibling case hasn’t been a success, it’s unlikely to deter Premier League suitors from knocking on Southampton’s door for more signings this summer.
Cyle Larin drops Finn Azaz and Léo Scienza transfer claim
While Saints players are ever-present on top clubs’ transfer radar, their remarkable Championship turnaround has brought them even more attention. Amidst the speculation that some Saints could be on their way out this summer, Cyle Larin’s recent comments have only stoked the fire.
Recently, the forward heaped praise on the quality of his teammates, Finn Azaz and Léo Scienza. As quoted by the Daily Echo, Larin made a massive transfer claim for them, saying: “They’re quality players, and they have the ability to play in the top leagues for me.”

Both Scienza and Azaz have tasted top‑flight football in some form. While Léo Scienza was a part of Heidenheim’s Bundesliga roster before making a Saints move, Azaz has previously played in Premier League 2.
Factor in the duo’s form since joining Southampton, and they look near certain to represent a Top-Flight club soon.
This possibility gets further strengthened with the transfer interest in them. With multiple European sides interested in acquiring Scienza and Premier League clubs Brighton and Leeds interested in Azaz, the duo might leave sooner than expected.
Southampton should retain at least one of Scienza and Azaz
Ever since Tonda Eckert shifted Scienza to a wide role, his chemistry with Fin Azaz has been a major source of goals for Southampton. While an ideal scenario would call for the Saints to try to retain both, a more realistic goal may be to hold on to at least one.
There’s no doubt that losing either Azaz or Scienza would be a blow to Southampton’s long‑term Premier League project. However, cashing in on one of them could give them funds to accelerate the project, given Sport Republic’s sharp scouting record.
With one proven attacker retained, Southampton could handle the departure of the other one by tapping into their focused talent markets. Again, the choice of which player to push to retain is a crucial pick.
Though both of the players are fundamental to Tonda’s system, retaining Scienza is non-negotiable for fans. While it will be challenging to replace Azaz, the club would back themselves to find an attacker from their German talent markets to pair up with Scienza.
