Southampton are likely to try to permanently sign on-loan forward Cyle Larin on a long-term deal when his loan ends this summer.
Southampton’s early transfer business is a strategic plan that has brought dual advantages. While scouting early gives them better options, securing exciting young talents for the future allows the club to focus the summer window on crucial first‑team decisions.
One of the biggest tasks for the club this summer will be finalising the futures of winter loanees. Though the club has made their plans clear regarding Daniel Peretz, supporters are eager to know about forward Cyle Larin.
Recently, Larin delivered another impressive performance for Southampton in the Championship. Beyond the opening goal he scored, the manner in which he carried himself throughout the game won over fans.
Larin backed earlier statement with super display Vs Blackburn
Before the Derby game, Larin urged Southampton to continue their winning ways rather than pause to admire their unbeaten run. While Larin started from the bench against Derby, the Canadian forward led by example by capping off a heroic display against the Rovers.
In the 15th minute, Larin headed a delivery from Bree toward goal. Though he couldn’t generate enough power on the shot, his goal hunger was soon rewarded by Cameron Archer.
Archer sprinted to the byline and delivered a low cross to create a tap-in opportunity for Larin in the 24th minute. The forward made no mistake to put Southampton 1-0 ahead.
In the second half, Larin created a brilliant opportunity for teammate Kuryu Matsuki. After a brilliant run with his pace, he cut inside to tee up Matsuki in the centre of the box. However, Larin was denied a deserved assist when Matsuki couldn’t keep his shot down.
Southampton will try to sign Cyle Larin permanently
It’s worth noting that whenever Larin has been given a start, he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The goal against Blackburn took his tally to four goal contributions in his last four starts.
Such performances haven’t only impressed the faithful but have also raised questions about how Larin fits into Southampton’s summer plans. To fans’ relief, media outlet Cadena Ser has indirectly hinted at the club’s approach regarding a permanent transfer for Larin.

Journalist Alberto Mora discussed about Larin on Cadena Ser’s show Golazo Canada: “He’s the same player he was at Besiktas, scoring goals, combative… He’s rediscovered that form at Southampton. We understand that the English club will make an effort to sign him.”
The outlet further confirms that Southampton possess a buy option of €4m in Larin’s deal. If the Saints decide to pay that fee, they can secure the in‑form forward on a long‑term deal.
Is Cyle Larin the PL-level forward Saints have been looking for?
Larin’s winter arrival has rarely let Southampton feel the absence of former top scorer Adam Armstrong. With five Championship goals in around 600 minutes, Larin boasts one of the best goals‑per‑minute ratios in the league.
Those figures make it obvious why supporters assume Larin would be the first‑choice forward if signed permanently for the Premier League. While there’s little debate over whether Southampton should make the move, the club may have a different role in mind for him.
Notably, the primary reason RCD Mallorca loaned Larin was his inconsistent form in La Liga during the last couple of seasons. While he had a brilliant loan spell with Real Valladolid in 2022/23, where he scored 8 times in 19 appearances, his performance dipped when he was permanently signed for the league.
Additionally, Southampton have seen most of their Championship star forwards disappoint in Premier League campaigns. While Larin’s deal is essential to keep him at the club, he is expected to be given a backup role with a new forward signing ready-made for the Premier League.
