Daniel Peretz makes Southampton transfer comments that will leave Saints fans both happy and sad at the same time.
Most national teams have played the first of their two scheduled games for the March international break. Talking about Southampton players, those first games haven’t ended up well for most of them. Irish duo Ryan Manning and Finn Azaz had a night to forget in Prague both from an individual and collective point of view.
With Ireland leading 2-0, Manning was the culprit to hand Czech Republic a penalty and a way back into the game at 2-1. Later, Ireland were pegged back at 2-2 and Finn Azaz failed from his spot kick afterwards. Elsewhere, Shea Charles and his Northern Ireland team was also sent home packing by Italy.
The night was a bit kind to Daniel Peretz though. His Israel side came from behind to level it 2-2 at the full-time whistle. Amidst his international commitments, recently Daniel Peretz also took out time to reflect upon his positive Southampton spell so far.

The St. Mary’s faithful are huge fans of the 25-year-old and hence, many of them keep wishing for Peretz to stay long term at Southampton. Peretz is also aware of this. Infact, he touched down upon the possibility of him joining the Southampton squad on a permanent basis.
Reading between the lines, Peretz’s comments will make Southampton fans happy and sad at the same time.
Daniel Peretz open to Southampton stay beyond loan spell
Considering the best case, Southampton might gain promotion to the Premier League in May. That should be enough reason for Peretz to commit to a permanent contract at St. Mary’s provided the Aaron Ramsdale situation doesn’t pose any issues.
The worst case could be Championship football again. That’s where Southampton fans don’t fancy Peretz to stick with them. However, that might not be a deal breaker going by the current Saints No.1’s words.
In his own words, Transfermarkt quoted Daniel Peretz talking about Southampton: “Yes, it’s a perfect match for both of us. I was at a point where I needed that influence to become the first-choice goalkeeper. I needed to play regularly. It’s a different feeling than just being the backup.”
It’s evident Peretz dearly wants a first-choice role above anything. At Southampton, his pathway to retaining the gloves regularly in goal seems more crystal clear than if he would try to start over at a different top-flight club.

This guarantee can tempt Peretz to continue staying at Southampton no matter what happens with the current promotion push.
Daniel Peretz opens up on Champions League dream
Coming to the sad part from Daniel Peretz’s comments, it’s his ambition. Don’t get it wrong, every top player has his own ambitions and dreams which he hopes to fulfill during his playing career. And there are certain dreams that are quite difficult to achieve at a club like Southampton.
For Daniel Peretz, that desire is the Champions League. In his own words, the Saints shot-stopper added: “And of course, I want to win titles and play in the best leagues in the world. I want to be in the Champions League. We’ll see how it all plays out.”
What that means is Southampton fans shouldn’t expect to see the best years of Peretz’s career at St. Mary’s. That just won’t happen. Some day, a big European club or Premier League giant will come with an irresistible offer to prise Peretz away from Southampton’s books.
The same has happened with many elite Saints players over the years. Alan Shearer, Gareth Bale, Sadio Mane and Virgil Van Dijk are some of the best examples in this regard. That said, Saints should enjoy Peretz’s goalkeeping heroics for now without worrying what his future holds at the South Coast.
