Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier fires a warning to Manchester United for the Saints vs Man United legends game on Saturday.
This month, Southampton pulled out the 50th anniversary kit of the 1976 FA Cup win ahead of the away clash against Fulham. The hosts gave a tough evening to Tonda Eckert’s men with countless great chances inside the box.
However, a late Ross Stewart penalty saw Southampton pip Fulham 1-0 in the FA Cup fifth round on the day they brought back one of the most iconic kits in Saints history. The way the 50th anniversary kit brought good luck to Southampton three weeks ago, there will be plenty of fans willing to flock to St. Mary’s in April for the FA Cup quarter-final.
Southampton were pitted against Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-final draw which is a tough game in the first place. Still, the hope will remain for Tonda Eckert’s side to mimic the 1976 FA Cup winning team as far as they can.
Southampton vs Manchester United legends game
Southampton fans need no reminders for the upcoming 50th anniversary of the 1976 FA Cup win on 1st May. That falls one day before the final Championship matchday of the season. Hopefully, the Saints don’t leave it that late to seal a playoffs spot in the first place.

Even if they do, Southampton has ensured fans get to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of the FA Cup title without worrying about Premier League promotion or playoffs. The club has collaborated with Manchester United to play a legends game at St. Mary’s this coming Saturday.
Back in 1976, Southampton pulled a major upset by beating the Red Devils 1-0 at Wembley in the FA Cup final. Thus, hosting Manchester United for a legends friendly in front of Southampton fans is a fitting tribute from the Saints board.
Matt Le Tissier fires Manchester United warning for legends game
The Southampton vs Manchester United legends game is sure to see plenty of icons on both ends of the pitch. Southampton’s greatest legend ever and one-club man Matt Le Tissier will lead the Saints legends side as a player-manager. Bryan Robson would oversee the Man Utd legends squad.
Unlike 1976, there is no major trophy on the line. Still, legends games are always a memorable evening for fans and clubs involved and Southampton are also excited to look forward to it. The Saints released a mini pre-game press conference clip to preview the game that featured the man himself, Matt Le Tissier.
