Southampton fans had the last laugh at Tyler Dibling’s £100m asking price throwback which turned a year old today.
Like every relegated Premier League team, Southampton were a seller’s club last year. The Saints didn’t let go of any top players in the 2025 winter window and, as such, were left looking out for various transfer offers when the 2025 summer transfer window came.
Kyle Walker-Peters had made up his mind to walk out as a free agent. Mateus Fernandes and Aaron Ramsdale were estimated to attract huge Premier League bids, although Ramsdale might still head back to St. Mary’s without a Newcastle United transfer.
Tyler Dibling 2025 transfer saga
Then, there was the interesting Tyler Dibling situation. He was a diamond in the rough in an otherwise poor Southampton attack. Despite scoring only 4 goals across all competitions, Dibling was attracting transfer interest from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

That made Southampton even more conscious about fetching the maximum possible transfer fee they can from Tyler Dibling’s sale. What followed next was a Saints transfer masterclass that turns one year old today.
Southampton slapped a £100m price tag on Tyler Dibling. Honestly, that even caught many Saints faithfuls by surprise who had never seen a £100m asking price for a player in his debut Premier League season.
In their own words, the Second Tier podcast wrote: “This time last year, Southampton wanted £100m for Tyler Dibling.”
Of course, no club was going to give in to Southampton’s £100m demand. Everton were still keen on Dibling. The Toffees approached Saints with a low offer, negotiated for weeks before ultimately paying £42m to bring Dibling to Merseyside.
Southampton fans had last laugh at £100m Tyler Dibling throwback
Tyler Dibling’s first season at Everton is about to come to a close in just over a month. The 20-year-old rarely plays for Everton, hasn’t scored or assisted even once and now appears well and truly out of Toffees boss David Moyes’ plans.
Talking about Southampton fans, they had the last laugh from the Tyler Dibling sale. Many Saints fans were elated beneath the £100m asking price throwback.
One of them said: “Yeah, what a cracking bit of marketing! Basically robbed them blind!!“

Another just went on about Southampton’s signings since then, who have all put better numbers in front of goal than Dibling. He added: “Yeah that 40 million bought Scienza, who is much better, jander, fellows and azaz… thanks very much.“
It’s not that Southampton fans don’t sympathise with their former players anymore. Tyler Dibling was still a work in progress talent at Southampton. He could have opted to prove himself in the Championship first, before sealing a mega Premier League move later. However, Dibling rushed the top-flight move and Saints believe that was his biggest fault.
One Southampton fan aptly put: “As usual a young player badly advised, the PL is not the be all and end all. A season in the Championship where he would have played regularly, learnt his trade would have been the best thing. Saints got the deal they wanted, he is Everton’s problem now.“
A few Southampton fans also brought up Tyler Dibling’s old Chelsea transfer story. Back in 2022, Dibling had left Southampton’s academy to join the Blues youth setup but returned merely a month later.
Adapting to new surroundings might be Dibling’s weakness. Another Southampton fan sighed: “He has mentality issues and was poorly advised by agents I believe. Shame. Kids got real talent“
