Former Southampton boss Will Still has ruled out the possibility of taking over his dream Premier League job.
Southampton appointed Will Still as the new permanent boss over 10 months ago. He was going to succeed former permanent managers Russell Martin and Ivan Juric after a terrible Premier League campaign, and lead the Saints rebuild in the relatively easier Championship.
An easy league, a starting lineup filled with Premier League promotion winners and Johannes Spors making multiple top signings in the background. It was meant to be a grand success for Still at St. Mary’s. Turns out, Still was just as clueless as Juric.
He wasn’t capable of adapting to the Championship and getting points from losing situations. Will Still brought along a defensive brand of football at Southampton. However, his defensive choices were too naive.

Still kept giving chances upon chances to Joshua Quarshie and Nathan Wood even after knowing that both of them were a work in progress as centre-backs. The attack almost never seem to score more than one goal under Will Still. Eventually, he was sent through the exit door in November which was when Southampton really began their promotion push.
Will Still rules out dream West Ham job
After Southampton, it was crystal clear that Will Still’s reputation had taken a backseat in English football. Nevertheless, it wasn’t long ago when Russell Martin landed the Rangers job six months after leaving Southampton at 5 points halfway through the season.
Ivan Juric was also presented at Champions League playing Atalanta side two months on from his Southampton sacking. As such, Will Still getting a Premier League job after flopping in the Championship wouldn’t have come as a surprise to Southampton fans.
Plus, Will Still is a West Ham supporter deep down. The Hammers are going through arguably their worst Premier League campaign in years and thus, are relegation favourites alongside Tottenham Hotspur as a result.

Taking West Ham out of this nightmare and becoming a cult hero among the Hammers should have enticed Will Still. Truth be told, it doesn’t.
In his own words, Capital Football quoted Will Still ruling out his dream West Ham job: “I don’t think I could do it because I’m too emotionally attached to the club. I want them to win and I want them to win as much as they can. I’ll focus on my career and what I can do anywhere else.”
Southampton tenure might be holding Will Still back
Will Still has worked as a first team boss for the past 9 years with 5 different clubs. Out of them, the majority of his jobs were related with avoiding relegation. He hasn’t led a successful promotion task all along.
Plus, Still’s awful Southampton tenure might also be telling him not to take the West Ham job at a low point in his career. The best way out for Will Still is to look out for a Championship club in the summer or another opportunity in French Ligue 1.
Do well for a few years there, and then progress to a big Premier League level job.
