The latest Daniel Peretz and Southampton transfer update has arrived. It will remind fans of a failed £11m transfer from 2015.
With each passing day, Southampton have got less time on their hands to think about loan deals. Exactly one month is left in the Saints’ regular Championship campaign. Add a few weeks more, if Tonda Eckert’s men set a playoffs date and hopefully reach Wembley for another promotion final.
As such, Johannes Spors and the higher-ups should come up with definite decisions on Southampton’s loan players. Loaned out players like Will Smallbone and Joe Aribo among others will most likely be moved on. As for Cyle Larin, the next Arsenal game will be crucial in determining his Premier League suitability.
Coming to the most important loan deal, it’s goalkeeper Daniel Peretz. He has helped solidify Southampton’s defence and win multiple games with his unbelievable saves since arriving in January on loan.
Southampton and Daniel Peretz want £7m permanent transfer
No matter whether Southampton get any other loan decision wrong, the club will want to secure Peretz on a permanent deal. That is a no-brainer by now. The St. Mary’s faithful is well amazed by Peretz, and it’s up to the club to iron out possibly the best permanent transfer Southampton will make in years.

Fortunately, a positive transfer update has arrived in that regard. In his own words, journalist Jack Rosser said: “Southampton are keen to sign Daniel Peretz permanently at the end of the season. #SaintsFC have £7m option and, while Peretz has other clubs interested, he is open to staying at Southampton.”
Southampton fans will be delighted to hear that both the club and Peretz are in favour of his £7m switch to St. Mary’s. It’s not a small amount for the Saints but it’s completely worth it for a player who is too good for the Championship, to be fair.
Daniel Peretz update will remind £11m Toby Alderweireld failed transfer
With elite players, there are elite issues as well at times. The report shed light on the fact that Daniel Peretz has a bunch of suitors elsewhere. Coventry City might be one of them as they were linked with a Daniel Peretz move in case their £20m deal falls through.
Even if Southampton fends off Coventry City’s rival interest, there is a wide possibility of a Toby Alderweireld failed transfer repeat. Back in 2015, the Saints were quite impressed by the Belgian centre-back’s performances during a season long loan from Atletico Madrid.

Although Southampton were a Premier League outfit, it was obvious that Alderweireld’s talent was a level apart from the Saints squad. He had established himself as a regular starter for the Belgium national team. Premier League fans often talked about Alderweireld in the Team of the Season debates at that time.
Simply put, he was destined for a Premier League Big 6 switch in the near future. Still, Southampton had a buy option at the end of the day. The club must have imagined Alderweireld playing atleast a couple of years at St. Mary’s before joining a Premier League giant.
What happened next surprised every Southampton fan. Tottenham Hotspur approached Alderweireld out of nowhere and convinced the Belgian defender to sign for them. Rather than coming to St. Mary’s, Alderweireld and his parent club Atletico Madrid agreed a £11m transfer deal with Tottenham Hotspur.
Not to sound negative, but Daniel Peretz’s case resembles a lot with Toby Alderweireld. A world class player, thriving on loan at St. Mary’s and eyed by other clubs well before the Saints have used the buy option. Hopefully, it plays out well this time and Peretz becomes a Southampton player on a permanent basis.
