Saints fans think Southampton won’t sign Cyle Larin permanently from Mallorca in 2026 for one clear Premier League reason.
The March international break is always the time for manager and transfer discussions for Southampton fans. One year ago, the Saints fans were busy wondering when the club will decide to sack Ivan Juric amidst a disastrous 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
Southampton have dropped down in terms of league level since then. However, the present Championship run-in is turning out to be more exciting and a far better affair in general. Tonda Eckert’s men have firm control over the top 6 spot although the margin of error is quite thin.
The debate is up whether Southampton will advance to the playoffs or not. Likewise, fans are advocating for Daniel Peretz’s permanent signing if Southampton hold a say in the situation.
January signing Cyle Larin is another loan success at St. Mary’s. Perhaps, he has had the same impact in attack as Peretz has made in goal. Southampton hold the cards over Larin’s permanent signing as well.

But fans aren’t quite convinced. The St. Mary’s faithful have their doubts over signing Cyle Larin on permanent terms, and it’s all down to one clear reason.
Fans think Southampton won’t sign Cyle Larin for one reason
Right off the bat, the biggest Cyle Larin concern for Southampton fans is the Premier League. No doubt, top-flight football would be a breath of fresh air after an exhausting twelve months. But can Larin adapt to it? This is the biggest thought scaring Southampton fans.
One of them wrote: “He has certainly helped that’s for sure. But is he good enough for the Prem’? That’s the big question.”
Other Southampton fans proposed a different argument. They were in favour of adding Larin permanently only if the club were on their way to a second successive Championship campaign.
A second fan opined: “If we don’t get promoted it would be a yes, but not of prem level for me. That said I do like him as a player and does some good stuff”

Many Southampton fans shared these sane sentiments. Another one praised the Canadian striker for his old school hold up play as a No.9 but didn’t give in to the temptation to sign Larin from parent club Mallorca.
He said: “I feel it’s pointless having any of these conversations until we know whether we’re up or not. That said, he’s the first striker who can hold it up that we’ve had in a couple years, that’s worth keeping.”
Well, there is a way for Southampton to check Cyle Larin’s Premier League fit. The Saints have an FA Cup quarter-final tie vs Arsenal in 10 days. Fans believe that could be Larin’s golden chance to prove himself as an adept Premier League forward.
One Southampton fan shared the same feelings, saying: “He is a threat to defenders whatever you look at it. Maybe Arsenal will be a good test to see how he copes”
For the record, Ross Stewart scored his first Southampton goal against Arsenal last year. That was when he was long viewed as a useless striker at the club by a vast majority of the fans. Larin has fared better than Stewart in his initial months on the south coast.
Therefore, one can’t rule him out as a potential goalscorer vs Mikel Arteta’s Gunners on April 4th. Till then, let’s remain hopeful all goes well for Larin and Southampton in the coming months and both parties do give a thought to continuing on a permanent basis.
